There’s no such thing as leftover pie, right?
In the unlikely event that you do need to warm up a pie, we’re going to tell you how to reheat pie in the oven.
How to Reheat Pie in an Oven
Fruit and nut pies are easy to reheat after being stored in the refrigerator.
While the filling can take overheating, the crust is more sensitive – that’s why we like to take a more conservative approach.
To reheat a pie in the oven:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Place pie on foil-lined baking sheet
- Reheat for 10 minutes uncovered
- Assess temperature and heat for another 10 minutes if necessary
- Lightly cover with foil if crust begins to brown
Others recommend heating the pie for 30 minutes. While all pies differ, we prefer a more conservative approach so that you can better monitor how the crust is taking the heat.
If your crust starts to brown after 10 minutes but the pie’s core still isn’t warm enough, lightly cover the pie with tinfoil and place back in the oven for another 10 minutes.
How to Tell If Pie Is Reheated Enough
There are two methods when it comes to testing to see if your pie is ready to eat.
The first one doesn’t take too much creativity; simply take a bite!
The problem is that you may not get a feel for how warm the center is.
The second method is to stick a knife to the pie’s bottom and hold there for a few seconds. Then, taste the filling on the knife, or place it on your lips.
Reheat Pie in the Microwave
There aren’t many simple pleasures better than a warm slice of pie.
It can be tempting to skip the wait for the oven and warm up your pie in the microwave.
Don’t give in!
The microwave will cause moisture to be absorbed, leaving you with a dried out crust. In addition, microwaves cause egg products to be turn rubbery.
A lot of time and work went into making your pie. Don’t ruin it by giving in to the easy temptation of the microwave.
How Long Can Pie Be Refrigerated
If your house is anything like ours, you don’t see too many leftover slices of pie.
However, if you do need to store some pie for later, you can comfortably do so in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Eating pie kept in the refrigerator for more than 4 days is a little bit of a gamble. At the very least, it won’t taste as good.
